食べログラーメン EAST 百名店2023
The East Japan Hyakumeiten (百名店) compiles 100 of the best shops in the eastern prefectures of Japan. This stretches from Hokkaido to Nagoya and will have many ramen hunter braving the cold white north for a bowl of hot noodles. The Hyakumeiten lists also give the nod to 100 shops in Tokyo, Osaka, and West Japan. That is 400 shops, chosen by the top reviewers over at Tabelog.com.
I’ve compiled the East Japan 2023 list here for your viewing pleasure. Though the list isn’t a ranking, I put these shops in order of their overall Tabelog rating. Click the link to read more on Ramen Adventures. I’ve been to all of these shops, but am very much behind in my posting.

The East list is dominated by Kanto (the plains around Tokyo) with 41 shops in Kanagawa, 16 in Saitama, and 9 in Chiba. The rest of the list gives a lot of love to Nagoya and Hokkaido, and a little love to Niigata, Fukushima, Tochigi, etc. The only far-off place new to the 2023 list is Narumi Shokudo (中華蕎麦 鳴神食堂), a shop with a crazy lineup. If you go on the weekend, prepare to give up the said weekend. It’s worth it though. Speaking of far-off ramen shops . . .
Completing the East list is a fun way to travel around Japan. JR (Japan Rails) has a Tohoku Pass for 30,000 yen at the time of writing. It gives you unlimited rides on any train, bullet trains included, in the north of Japan for five days. Using this and hitting all the shops in the area would be my 5-day vacation. Throw in a couple of stays at hot springs, a few non-ramen meals, and time in nature for a proper break from the city.
