Tabelog’s ambitious 百名店 (hyakumeiten or 100 famous shops) is back and bigger than ever. This curated list shows what the top food reviewers in Japan slurp when they need a good bowl of ramen.

Here are the top 100 ramen shops in West Japan for 2025. For your convenience, they are listed in order of general ranking even though the top 100 isn’t treated as a ranked list. Keep in mind that these lists cover seven regions. Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka, East Japan, West Japan, Hokkaido, and now Aichi each have their own page. Happy hunting!

My favorite lists on the extensive hyakumeiten are those for East Japan and West Japan. Tourists and locals alike tend to focus on Tokyo and Osaka, but don’t sleep on the countryside. Ok, Kyoto isn’t really countryside, but you get my point. Rent a car and drive out of your comfort zone. Spend a day cruising into the mountains in search of ramen shops loved by the locals. Stay in a remote ryokan, pig out on ramen, and soak up the nature and hot springs that make Japan so special.

Out of 100 shops, 17 are in Kyushu, home to delicious tonkotsu ramen. I could see Kyushu getting its own list in the future, but for now, these will have to suffice. Kyushu might be the most fun for a ramen road trip I’ve had, and a week or two is a great idea.
