元祖琴浦ラーメン たかうな

Well, this was an interesting one. We ate some ramen at Inoyoshi with a friend who was living in the area, and she insisted it was nowhere near the level of her favorite shop. I wasn’t impressed either, so we all headed to Takauna for another bowl of beef ramen in Tottori, the prefecture known for beef bone ramen.

And beef bone ramen it was. According to their kodawari points, they use local shoyu and 100% local beef bones that are cooked for 24 hours. Tottori has beautiful mountains, oceans, and nature, making it an excellent place for ingredients.

Well, the chashu pork was nice. Made from local Daisen pork loin, it was charred just before serving. Unfortunately, the rest of the bowl was quite bad. There was something wrong. Flavors of green onions sitting too long in the bottom of a plastic grocery bag come to mind. Funk. There were also several very fat flies buzzing around the restaurant. The kind of meat flies that appear when someone left something out over the weekend.

It’s a shame. I’ve dined at restaurants across the globe with the Tottori friend, and I know she has good taste. The master wasn’t in on this particular day, and we decided that must have been an issue. The dirty shop didn’t help either. I hate to do it, but I have to give Takauna my lowest score, a one out of five.

They also had an unusual mayonnaise ramen on the menu. We debated trying it, but decided against.

I’m glad the high school student next to me ordered it, so I could snap a quick photo. I’m not a fan of mayonnaise and think I would have had one sip of this one before quitting. But who knows, if the ramen wasn’t off and the master was behind the counter, this mayo-beef-ramen might have been a winner.

Gyoza was tasty. Apparently, they make a ramen burger as well…
