桜台らぁ麺美志満

Mishima does the shio ramen thing with your choice of shio ramen or seafood shio ramen, and a frequent array of limited bowls like shio tsukemen. They also have a shoyu, making this a great shop for local ramen slurpers.

Sakuradai is a relatively unknown suburb of Tokyo out near Nerima. That doesn’t mean there isn’t business. There are many offices in the area and Musashi University uses Sakuradai Station. Some ramen geeks might go so far as to call Sakuradai a ramen battle zone, with dozens of decent shops to choose from.

The signature shio tare uses specialty ingredients from around Japan. A blend of Japanese sea salt and Mongolian lake salt along with a white soy sauce from Kyushu give a subtle salt punch. Shellfish, dried konbu, and mushrooms round out the umami. Japanese sake also gets blended in.

The shop is named after owner Hiroshi Takagi’s hometown of Mishima, not far from Tokyo. He trained at Marukyu Ramen, Hatsugai, and Muro Ichi Ramen before branching off and doing his own thing.
