味一

Running low on recommended ramen shops in Fukuoka, I asked my barber. Years ago I met a character named Skamdust at a random bar in Tokyo. Later on he had some hand in opening a New York-style barbershop called Frank’s Chop Shop in Fukuoka, and I pay it a visit every time I’m in town. One of their staff recommended Ajiichi. It’s his favorite shop. I gotta check it out.

Kadomatsu is a random stop on the west side of Fukuoka. Let’s go!

Despite what the ramen tastes like, 550 yen for a bowl is great. In 2022, the norm in Tokyo is over 1000, so this is something special. Bring on the deal. I went with the 800 yen chahan set. For an extra couple of bucks, you get a bowl of half-size fried rice. I also got some gyoza and a beer. Vacation mode.

Fairly standard Hakata stuff. Creamy pork soup with those thin, firm noodles. I tried researching after the fact, but 味一 literally means “best taste,” and that’s not going to narrow anything down.

The kind of place you’d stop off at after a long day of skin fades and pomade styling.
