いかれたNOODLE Fishtons

Shinsaibashi in Osaka is a great place to stay. It’s just north of bustling Namba and just south of convenient Umeda. For ramen nerds like myself, a stay in Osaka is made much better by choosing a hotel with easy access to the surrounding parts of the city. Of course, there are many spots centrally located, like Noodle Fishtons, so for the normal folk out there you can just stay anywhere. In 2022, before Japan opened for tourism, Osaka was about the cheapest place in Japan for a decent hotel. I stayed at The Lively many times for around $40 a night. Prices have risen significantly, but hopefully when the 2023 tourism rush dies down so will the prices.

I got off on a tangent. Noodle Fishtons is a pretty good spot for some tsukemen.

The noren curtain shows that Fishtons comes from Ramen Kukuhan (らぁ麺きくはん), another Osaka shop that opened in 2015. Fishtons opened a few years later in 2017.

So many choices. So many stickers.

The standard tsukemen soup takes around five days to make. This is some serious soup. If you spend a day ramen hunting in Osaka, you can opt for a small serving of noodles, if 150 grams is small for you. For reference, normal ramen is often 120 grams. The large comes in at 300 grams for you hungry folk out there. The homemade noodles are excellent.

A great bowl for the niboshi lovers out there. I’d seen pictures of tsukemen with two kinds of noodles (あいもり木桶醤油つけ麺), but that must be a limited offering. They also occasionally switch the style up completely, so check Twitter if you really want to be sure what’s in store.

The usual suspects from the ramen-hunting world have left their marks on the ticket machine. Can you find the Ramen Adventures sticker? Noodle Fishtons was on the 2022 East Japan Top 100 list, so I suspect it is on everyone’s radar.
