ラーメンの坊歩 (Ramen no Bonbo in Kyoto)

ラーメンの坊歩

Fat-filled ramen with a side of spicy fried chicken is the name of the game at this Kyoto chain. With three shops on opposite sides of the city, you’re never too far from an artery-clogging meal.

The ramen here is tori-tonkotsu (鶏豚骨), meaning a thick soup made from boiling chicken and pork bones on high heat until the collagen makes the whole thing a creamy delight. Cover it all with some blobs of pork backfat and you’re good to go.

A side of fried chicken for 500 yen is a bit much, but you can get a half-size order for half the price.

Kind of heavy for my liking, but I understand the appeal of some junky noodles in a city known for elegant, refined cuisine.

Still reading? Did you know that I released a ramen cookbook? It’s available wherever fine cookbooks are sold, aka Amazon. Can’t wait to see what recipes you come up with!
