Tokyo is a melting pot of ramen styles. Though Kyushu is king in porky tonkotsu styles, plenty of local shops in Tokyo give the south a run for their money. A quick search on the ramen databank, sorted by tonkatsu ramen in Tokyo, and you’ll see Kenta sitting at number five overall.

This good boy knows where to go.

The sign inside says くさうま最高. Stinky and tasty top-level. Yeah, this bowl is one of those smelly Kyushu deals that divides the masses.

The shop is very rough around the edges. Again, it’s a Kyushu thing.

Pork bones simmered for hours on end. Kyushu loves their high gas bills.

The result is precisely what you’ll find in food carts and hole-in-the-wall shops in Hakata or Nagahama. The master trained at Komaya (駒や) in Hakata. If you’ve been to Komaya (you probably should) you’ll understand. Stinky and delicious or stinky and horrible. Judge for yourself!
