Noodle Stand Tokyo in Harajuku, Tokyo

Noodle Stand Tokyo

Noodle Stand Tokyo recently moved from its location in a basement in Harajuku to a new spot on the second floor of a restaurant hall in Harajuku. Same menu, same nice staff, same potentially available 12,000 yen most expensive ramen on earth. The only difference is that it is three minutes farther down the road.

Jingumae Comichi is one of a handful of upscale food courts that have popped up in recent years around Tokyo. There’s a craft beer bar, a yakitori restaurant, and a casual outlet of a fine-dining establishment. And of course a ramen shop.

I’m a fan of Noodle Stand Tokyo.

They offer something for everyone.

The classic chukasoba is made “ethically” meaning local, sustainable ingredients.

The menu also has my favorite stewed-beef mazesoba and a vegan coconut miso ramen. Something for everyone. It is especially important that they have a tasty vegan menu. People who choose to go the vegan route in their lives have few options in Japan. Sometimes a nice umami-rich sans-animal bowl is the perfect thing to make your trip special.

I was invited to a pre-open event (perks of being semi-press) and I’m happy to say I was the very first to slurp at the new Noodle Stand Tokyo. Number two was none other than Yamamoto-san, one of Japan’s top ramen critics. He eats over 1000 bowls a year and works full-time as a ramen critic. I was still number one though.

Fun spot in a good location. You can drop down to the craft beer bar on the first floor if that’s your thing as well.

And then head into Harajuku for all of your cosplay needs.
