IKR51

Another job in Osaka meant time for a few bowls. And time to meet up with fellow ramen nut Ben, who blogs over at Friends in Ramen.

IKR51 was actually recommended by some random dude one the street. A random dude who was touting for a local izakaya. He recognized Ramen Adventures from the TV, so of course I asked for his osusume, recommendation. He was really into IKR51. AKB48? NMB48? No, IRK51.

IKR means ikura, those tasty, red salmon eggs that make their way into sushi shops across Japan. And tackle boxes of fishermen worldwide.

I love the things, and not ordering the large size bowl of ikura over rice, topped with an onsen egg, was tough. Let’s hope the ramen can live up.

Excellent bowl. The soup is a shrimp and salt broth, heavy on the shrimp. Usually, this combo gets sprinkled with a couple slivers of fresh yuzu peel, for an aromatic extra. Here, though, mounds of yuzu make their way in. The over-use of it was great!

Love the Osaka scene! Like many spots in Osaka, IKR51 is open very late.
