麺や べらぼう

Finally, a shop I can give the coveted 1-star rating to. Celebrate! I wrote about my 5-star rating system here. I’m thinking of changing over to a 10-star system. This wouldn’t change shops that get my lowest rating. Anyways, let’s get to this horrible bowl.

“Many kinds of dried fish and konbu seaweed broth. It’s nostalgic.”

Normal chikasoba bowl. Maybe it wasn’t that bad. Maybe the subtle flavors of Japanese dashi gave just the right amount of umami balanced with a touch of saltiness from the soy sauce. The master trained at his childhood friend’s shop (徳島NOODLEぱどる) before opening Berabo.

Maybe those noodles were perfect. They sure look good!

Well, this shop lived in a dinky bar-by-night ramen-by-day location. That in of itself isn’t a big problem, but the ventilation of said bar wasn’t up to code. This ramen shop stunk of stale cigarettes and sweaty, boozy salarymen. It wasn’t pleasant. We were sitting by a window and it was pretty bad. Subtle, tanrei style ramen relies on delicate aromas to entice your tastebuds. This shop enticed me to give up drinking.

Well, the shop is closed. It also seems as though they were making ramen on the 1st floor, with that 2nd floor bar used as overflow seating. I don’t exactly remember. I just remember the stank.
