松福本店

Shofuku is one of Shizuoka Prefecture’s most famous shops. It looks very ie-kei, Yokohama-style tonkotsu. Or is it just a straight-up tonkotsu? The official name of their bowl is うまいラーメン. Umai Ramen. Delicious Ramen.

And umai it is. The menu is massive, with all kinds of ways to customize your bowl. They also have fried rice that comes highly recommended. I wasn’t super hungry so I abstained from said rice. Did I make a huge mistake?

A 100% pork-bone soup is simmered for around 10 hours for this bowl. Though the image of a creamy soup with a trifecta of green nori seaweed, cabbage, and spinach is a Yokohama-style 家系, the 100% pork excludes it. Yokohama-style should contain some chicken as well. Do we really need to categorize things though? Umai ramen is umai ramen.

This is actually a half-size serving. Who doesn’t love a smaller bowl when the intention is to snack somewhere else afterward. By the way, the half size is practically full size when you compare it to other ramen shops. And only 550 yen!

Shofuku has something like nine shops in the area, so you don’t need to visit this one in particular. You should though because it’s in a nice touristy part of town.

The shop is a stone’s throw from the Numazu Fish Market (沼津魚市場). Fish from Suruga Bay is unique and tasty. It’s Japan’s deepest at around 2500 meters. This means unique biodiversity. You can learn more at the Deep Sea Aquarium (沼津港深海水族館) located in said fish market.

I’ve been to this fish market a handful of times and always thought this aquarium looked like a tourist trap. However, the dark blues of the deep were calming and beautiful. The fish were ones I’d never seen before.

I recommend a stop.
