A small, shop-lined street near my temporary housing in Ogikubo had a few choice-looking shops. The apartment hunting adventure took a short break to make way for a walk in the neighborhood.

Futaba is one of the highest ranked in Ogikubo. Scientific-looking specimens on the wall, along with the excellent smell, let you know that this is, you guessed it, Ogikubo Style. Fish-heavy shoyu.

Very fish-heavy. Making a ramen with the maximum amount of niboshi is a difficult task. Simmer it too long and the bitterness means ruin. Simmer it not long enough… well then you fall short of the max. Respect to Futaba.

By the way, they have a shio-shiso ramen that is excellent. This shop is up there.

At this point, I can say with confidence that Harukiya and Futaba are must-slurp shops in Ogikubo. Futaba actually has a few other branches within walking distance, though I can not say for sure if they are all exactly the same.
