Sato was the final shop on the Tabelog Hyakumeiten (百名店), a curated best-of list for Tokyo’s ramen shops. The final stop on a journey that will be reset the following year, but a journey nonetheless. The location out near Haneda Airport is a bit far for me, hence the last shop on my list. Ramen adventures.

I tried to visit Satou on two previous occasions, but it was randomly closed. It’s a small operation, and I think they sell out of soup often. In fact, this time I went a few hours before closing, and by the time I slurped my bowl, they had taken down the shop’s noren curtain, signaling that they were done for the day. Lucky timing!

Ramen for 650 yen and a bowl of half-sized curry rice for 300. Not a bad deal.

It’s a very simple bowl here at Sato. Light chicken soup with some heavily seasoned menma and pork chashu. A fantastic bowl. Simple and refreshing after the long cycle trip from central Tokyo to the edges of Kanagawa. The side of curry was decent, but you could skip it if you aren’t that hungry.

I should mention that Satou was on the 2020 list, but removed from the 2021 list to make room for other ramen shops. Hey, these things happen!
