一九ラーメン糟屋店

Ikkyu (One-Nine) has a few locations around Fukuoka, but it’s the Kasuya shop you gotta visit. Sure, it’s a little bit of a walk (11 minutes) from the nearest station, but it’s a very nice walk along rice paddies and forested hills. The ramen rewards are worth it. Tonkotsu ramen that is purposefully less sweet than your average Kyushu bowl with wontons and tender chashu. Let’s go!

The shop is a bit shack-ish, with portable fans keeping customers as cool as possible. Founded in 1965, there are currently seven Ikkyu shops around Fukuoka. They also manage four Ippachi (One-Eight) shops. Are they all this cool?

Actually, the Ohashi shop is their original one, but I was told that this shack was the goto for many locals. I think that goes for all of the shops though; these are shops for local dudes to get their slurp on. I commend the ramen hunters who have tried all seven shops. Those who did all seven in one day, hats off. Kyushu ramen hunters are intense, so I imagine there are a few people who have slurped seven bowls in a day just to say they did it.

The wontons are fairly flimsy, but somehow they match the heavy soup and typical Hakata noodles. For those who like details, there are seven wontons and you will pay 650 yen. Regular ramen is only 500 yen. Each shop has slightly different prices, so expect a plus/minus of 50 yen when you visit.

The ramen here is known as 19-style. The soup is cooked in a kettle and noodles are strained with a flat mesh. Soup is less sweet than other Hakata styles.

Apparently, you can get the soup to go, and they will serve it in an empty bottle of shochu. Nice way to upcycle. This is unique to this shop, which is the only shop in the group to have rules about photography, no kaedama extra noodles, and no choice on the firmness of said noodles. Hence no photos of the interior. Even the sneaky shot of the outside was taken ninja-style. I can’t remember, but I might have been streaming on Twitch and had to cut it short. Please follow the rules of the shop.
