Ramen Smith in Sendai is a Japanese punk music-themed ramenya serving up a unique niboshi miso bowl. I know next to nothing about the music scene in Japan, but if this bowl was inspired by Osaka-based HEY-SMITH then count me as a fan. Bold niboshi umami and rich miso come together for something that might not be true yourself when compared with more traditional miso ramen, but this could be the one.

Nibomiso ramen (ニボ味噌ラーメン). Niboshi ramen and miso ramen rarely come together. It’s very bold and in-your-face. You can get even crazier with the spicy version that adds numbing ma and hot ra spices.

There is also a secret menu of tanmen and spicy tanmen.

HEY-SMITH has a couple of hits. Four of their songs have over a million views on YouTube. What got me when doing my five minutes of research is learning about all of the punk rock festivals in Japan. Satanic Festival, Ishinomaki Buchi Rock, Joyfull, and others. I used to attend Fuji Rock in the past, and look forward to the year when festivals are back in Japan.

For now, we’ll just have to enjoy music in ramen shops.
