麺屋鈴春

Suzuharu is a hot new shop over near Tokyo Dome (where the dreaded Yomiuri Giants play). It’s your standard “OMG this is the best bowl of ramen ever” style.

The master at Suzuharu trained at Menya Itto. Itto is well known as an incubator shop. Yes, they are one of the top-ranked ramen shops in Japan, but they also support their staff if they want to go off and do their own thing. Itto alum are scattered around Japan and the globe.

The shoyu is your standard high-quality bowl. You’ll enjoy it very much. By the way, This part of Tokyo, Hongo San Chome, is considered a bit of a ramen battle zone. Of course, you could literally be in most other parts of Tokyo in less time than you’d wait in line for a bowl of ramen, but keep that in mind if you want to try multiple shops in a row.

A nice layer of rich chicken oil, some tender sous vide chicken breast, and a chicken egg that is practically perfect.

By the way, they do a special Jiro-style bowl only on Fridays which I’ve heard is worth the trek.

Apologies for the Yomiuri comment. Although I’ve been a San Francisco Giants fan since 1978, the Tokyo Giants are the dreaded cross-town enemies of my Yakult Swallows. While the Giants, with their deep pockets, are favored to win it more often than not, the Swallows have always been more entertaining. Nightly fireworks show anyone? In the last few years, they actually took the top spot. Take that Giants!
