麺屋ひょっとこ

Top-class ramen in a basement food court? Welcome to Tokyo.

If I had to think what the perfect bowl for a station food court would be, I’d have to say something light and easy. Something was a bit of aroma to mask whatever else is going on around you, whether they be good smells or bad. It’s gotta be something I could quickly slurp and be on my way.

Hyottoko hits all the marks.

Go for the upper right choice on the ticket machine. Yuzu ramen. The soup is a light wafu dashi using dried fish and chicken for delicate umami.

The massive slab of tender chashu is the highlight of this bowl. Or maybe it’s the scent of yuzu. A nice light soup, a nice fatty slab of pork, and a refreshing aftertaste from the grated yuzu citrus topping. For an extra 200 yen, you can have triple the pork. Go for it!

If ramen isn’t your thing, the yokocho here has a dozen other shops to choose from.
