鴨出汁中華蕎麦 麺屋yoshiki

Duck ramen has been an ongoing trend in recent years, with our web-footed friends making for some tasty bowls. It’s an expensive ingredient, but with the cost ceiling for ramen rising a few hundred yen, it isn’t out of the question. Yoshiki, out Chiba way, turns ducks into a rich bisque. It’s perfect for tsukemen.

Yoshiki (the man, not the ramen) is considered one of Japan’s rock gods. He’s one of the members of X Japan, and though he lives in Los Angles and is best friends with Marylin Manson these days, you’ll still see him doing TV spots and what not in Japan.

Actually, I did a TV show with him years ago. Long story, but I had no idea who he was. The night before the shoot, I googled him and watched a couple of his videos on YouTube. Great singer. When I did the show, where I introduced ramen shops to him and pop singer Kari Pyamyu Pyamyu, there was an air around him. It wasn’t until later that I found out just how close to greatness I was standing. I never took a photo with him. My bad.

Yoshiki, the ramen shop, serves up some thick noodles.

I normally go with the basic bowl, but the 特性 special came with extra duck chashu. Roasted duck meat.

The soup was thick and full of duckiness. A little on the funky side for me, but that’s what you get when you render down gamy meat like duck.

When I asked the master if he was a fan of Yoshiki, he acted like he didn’t understand my question. He shrugged and said his shop has nothing to do with the singer. It was a weird interaction, and I left even more confused than I felt when told that I was a damn fool for not getting Yoshiki’s autograph when I had the chance. For those interested, here is evidence of the show I did many years ago:
